Water (Cultural/Spiritual Perspective)
The widows believe that this is normal and expected once their husband dies. They are expected to accept that they are no use to the world or their culture/religion anymore. Even though they are forced into this lifestyle, they still believe in their God. They still believe in some higher power that forgives and loves them more than anyone else. I think that is what is keeping the women sane. They still have hope that their lives will get better. When Chuyia entered into the women's lives, she reminded them that they do not have to accept this lifestyle and neither does she. She brings hope to some of the women and igniting their power that they forgot they had.
Sound and Music in Tsotsi
In the beginning of this movie, David and his friends were at a club/bar and two of them were arguing with each other. While all of this is going on, there is loud fun music blasting in this commotion. When David got done beating up one of his friends, the music finally stopped and the focus was on them. I found it interesting that the music stopped when it did. The music was usually upbeat and some music were slower. The music fit in with different scenes very well.

The Road Home (Symbolism)
The Road Home was a really good movie. It some parts of the movie, it reminds me of some American movies, but most of the movie had a fresh style to it. It wasn't your typical cheesy love story, it actually had many symbols of the movie to connect with the characters. It wasn't about material things, sex or money, it was truly about love.
Usually in an American movie, the two main characters that are fall are "in love" have sex before they feel a real deep connection. Which is ridiculous! Snapping back to reality, I loved that this movie captured what true love is and what it stands for.

Set It Off: Camera shot
These four women are best friends that work at the same dead-end job. Each of them have different goals in life, but one goal that is the same is that they want to have enough to not ever want again. I like how this shot has repetition. Frankie( first woman to the left) is laying down, Cleo is sitting forward, Tete is sitting back and Stoney is leaning forward. From the women, to the background photos, the director knew how to capture this scene and the emotions with it.
400 Blows: Camera shot
When I look at this picture I automatically look at the man who grabs Antoine. The lighting is perfect for this scene. The man's face is bright, which leads you to his arm reaching out towards Antoine. The man's hand is clenched onto Antoine's shoulder while being on the phone with his father. Antoine's face is half lit. Antoine has his hat tilted the same way his body is leaned to the side. Even though Antoine is standing(means control) and the man is sitting (means less power), the man takes charge while still in his same position.
The 400 Blows
The teacher took his job very seriously and was constantly having trouble with his class. He was very stern and almost seems like he didn't like his class. In one scene, Antoine told him that his mother died and the teacher showed empathy towards him.
Antoine was shocked to see his mother kissing another man. Antoine's friend told him to use it to his advantage. Showing there were two different ways you can accept this situation, which is either being hurt or use blackmail. When Antoine's father found out about the mother cheating, he was upset, but didn't say much else about it. They didn't talk about separating or divorce.
In this scene, Antoine and his family are so happy. There was so much laughter and smiles to go around. It was so great that I thought there was a catch to this. I was waiting for something bad to happen.
